2025 is a very special year for AHS as we celebrate our 150th Anniversary. See below for details of our special events. We have updated and reissued a book on our history, first published in 2000 for our 125th Anniversary. Books and commemorative bags will be on sale at all our usual events.

Gardening for Beginners workshop – John Clachan
Come join us for a fun and informative session on the basics of gardening – perfect for beginners looking to start their gardening journey!
Learn the basics of plant types, plant care, pruning, composting, garden design and much more. The event will be run by John Clachan who has many years experience teaching horticulture and working as a professional gardener. Get ready to dig in and cultivate your love for gardening!

AHS Spring Gardens Competition
Email SpringGardens@AshteadHorticulturalSociety.uk with your name, address, and which category you would like to enter.
Judging will take place in early April by arrangement. There will be two prizes: Best Small Spring Garden (for gardens less than 50m2 in total), and Best Large Spring Garden (for gardens greater than 50m2). Judging criteria will be:
Variety of spring interest (e.g. flowers, foliage, blossom) 5 pts
Quality of plants in flower 5pts
Overall interest and impact 5 pts
Up to 5 bonus points for environment impact (e.g. water saving, reuse of materials) or unusual features (e.g. eye catching plants or other design features)

Self-drive visit to RHS Wisley.
Socialise with other AHS Members in the wonderful surroundings of RHS Wisley. Meet us at the entrance at 10am for free entry as part of our RHS Affiliation. It will kick off with a photograph for RHS, followed by an optional guided tour with short and longer routes. Please let us know if you will be joining us and whether or not you are an RHS member or not (and therefore whether you will us to provide a ticket). Bulb planting in the Village
Join fellow members for a fun day planting bulbs as a lasting legacy of our 150th Anniversary, then retire to a local hostelry to reward ourselves with a drink and a chat. Register here. We will meet at entrance to Bowyers Close, but please note as a private road parking is not available there.
